Roots & Reach: A Regional Gathering

Roots & Reach is space for people who work against the harms of industrial logging and biomass. People who work to create healthy and thriving communities. This gathering will deepen our roots and relationships across the US South. There will be both story and skill sharing to build the reach and strength of our network. Why Jackson, MS?

The small, rural community of Gloster, MS has been fighting wood pellet production giant Drax Biomass. Drax has violated their air quality permit multiple times. Last year Drax wanted to create even more pollution in the Gloster community. The residents of Gloster fought back. They took their concerns to the MS Department of Environmental Quality permitting board (MS DEQ). In a major victory for Gloster residents, MS DEQ denied Drax’s permit. Now, Drax is appealing the permit in a hearing on October 14th in Jackson, MS. We will be there with the people of Gloster. Together, we’ll rally against the harm and exploitation of people and the environment.
