We have lovely new interns starting at Dogwood Alliance this month, and we’re excited to introduce you to them!
Thank you to our Greencorps Organizers!
Katya, John and Rita have been a huge asset to the Our Forests Aren’t Fuel campaign. Between the three of them, they collected 2,834 SOS messages to Save Our Southern forests, turned out 500 people to 5 different visibility events, and generated 31 total media hits. Their passion and dedication to forest protection sparked a growing movement in the cities they worked in – Baton Rouge, Wilmington and Savannah. In these port cities, where our Southern forests are exported away to be burned as fuel, residents are standing up to send a clear message to policy makers and industry leaders: Our forests aren’t fuel.
Southern US Forests Deserve to be in the Spotlight of Efforts to Stop Global Deforestation
I attended the Innovation Forum’s Washington, DC conference on “How businesses can tackle deforestation.” In the midst of all the great discussions, I noticed the deforestation associated with industrial forestry in the Southern US, our own backyard, didn’t get the air time it deserves.
Passion For the Forest Movement: My Dogwood Internship
I’ve greatly enjoyed working with others who are passionate about the environment. Thinking back on my experience at Dogwood, I can’t be anything but positive. Working with Emily, I’ve helped organize student group connections, volunteer night events and Earth Day events on campuses across the southeast, including on my campus at Brevard College.
