Drax’s Amite Bioenergy plant is polluting the air in Gloster, MS. It’s harming public health. Drax uses Southern forests to make wood pellets that generate electricity abroad. Mississippi’s Dept. of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has fined Drax for repeatedly breaking pollution rules. But since they can’t comply, Drax is asking MDEQ to change the rules. They want the state’s permission to pollute more. MDEQ denied Drax’s request earlier this year, but Drax appealed. We’re joining community organizers to host a rally before the permit appeal hearing.
