Ask North Carolina Lawmakers to Stop Biomass
The biomass industry promised clean energy, more jobs, and economic prosperity. But biomass plants release toxic air pollution and fine dust. Biomass wood pellet production harms our state. Cutting and burning forests for energy is not a climate solution.
New research confirms wood pellet production is linked to respiratory illness like COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). North Carolina communities are getting sick. People living near wood pellet facilities have seen their property values decline. The biomass industry is destroying thousands of acres of standing forests. This makes us all more vulnerable to heavy rains, winds, and flooding.
